Gold represents the higher tier of coinage in the realm. One gold piece is equal to 1,000 silver, making it essential for large purchases. Gold does not appear during Act I and is introduced in later stages of the game, where property, building upgrades, and large investments can easily reach into the tens or hundreds of thousands of silver.

Because gold is rarely seen in the small starting village, it is mostly used within larger cities, where trade and construction demand higher denominations.
