About Bonker Droids (Ludum Dare 45)
Bonker Droids was created for Ludum Dare 45, a 72-hour global game development event built around the theme "Start with nothing". The competition featured over 2,600 submitted entries. Developed as a collaboration between Almighty Games and NorthernDevGuy, the project challenged us to build a complete arena combat experience in just three days.
Inspired by robotic combat competitions such as BattleBots, players control a remote-operated combat droid inside a confined arena. Each match begins with minimal equipment, forcing players to scavenge for weapons and power-ups scattered throughout the battlefield.
Combat is fast, direct, and physics-driven. Players maneuver their droid strategically, collect weapon pickups, and eliminate rival bots in close-quarters engagements. While intentionally streamlined due to the 72-hour constraint, the game captures the core fantasy of mechanical arena warfare.
The jam version represents the original prototype exactly as submitted during Ludum Dare 45... a focused, self-contained experiment in competitive robotic combat design.
