About Deepest Dungeon (Ludum Dare 48)
Deepest Dungeon was created for Ludum Dare 48, a 72-hour global game development event built around the theme "Deeper and Deeper." The competition featured over 4,000 submitted entries. The goal was simple: explore procedurally generated dungeon levels, collect three stars, survive traps, and descend as far as possible.
Built using the Unity asset DunGen for procedural generation, the game challenged players to navigate dark, trap-filled corridors while managing health pickups and avoiding hazards. All character models and environment assets were created by Billy McDaniel, many repurposed and adapted during the jam to fit a unified visual style. Despite limited time and missing systems such as scoring and music, the core dungeon crawling loop was successfully completed before submission.
More importantly, Deepest Dungeon became the foundation for a much larger vision. The assets and mechanics developed during this jam eventually evolved into a demo project titled Go Deep Or Go Home, which later transformed into what is now known as Crown of Kings. In that sense, this jam entry represents the earliest playable origins of one of Almighty Games’ most ambitious long-term projects.
