The Mace is considered the strongest weapon you can reasonably hope to find in the intro dungeon. Its blunt head deals heavy strikes that outpace the damage of the Sword, Axe, and Dagger.
For many adventurers, the mace becomes the weapon of choice to finish the intro dungeon, making it the first true milestone upgrade in Act I.
