The Scimitar is among the most powerful melee weapons available in Act I. Its curved design allows for swift, fluid strikes that cut down enemies with both speed and precision. Compared to heavier swords like the Broadsword or Falchion, the scimitar makes no sacrifice to damage with the added benefit of an even faster attack speed.
Many adventurers consider the scimitar the pinnacle of one-handed weaponry in Act I. It's definitely one of the most effective melee weapons available before progressing into later Acts.
