The Shortsword is among the better weapons you can acquire as you near the end of the intro dungeon. It delivers quicker strikes than the Sword, though it lacks the raw damage of the Mace.
Still, the shortsword is a clear improvement over weaker starter weapons and gives players more flexibility in close combat.
